Hong Kong police said they arrested 36 people after violent anti-government demonstrations. Protesters threw Molotov cocktails at security forces who then responded with water cannon and tear gas. According to Reuters, protests began in mid-June over a now-suspended extradition bill. This bill would have allowed Hong Konh people to be sent to mainland China for trial. Police said in a statement six officers drew their pistols and one officer fired a warning shot into the air.
